painting pottery together.
The pottery shards that I found while volunteering on an archeological dig at the Western Wall. History felt real to me for the first time when I realized that they had been shattered by the impact of the rock being pushed off the wall 2000 years ago.
I'd love to be a pottery teacher.
I have so many. the wire. deadwood. chocolate chip cookies. top chef. acoma and santo domingo pottery. laotian textiles. cumin, cilantro, shiso. the garage flea market. the guy who has been singing beatles songs in the 6th ave tunnel for as long as I can remember. lambrusco, brachetto. late night tortas with extra jalapenos. Terrence Malick. James Salter.
I hiked to and through Actun Tunichil Muknal, a 3.3-mile-long ancient Mayan river cave deep in Belize’s mainland jungle. First you wade thigh-high across three streams, then swim through a 20-foot-deep pool at the mouth of the cave, then squeeze through rocky crevices, dodge bats flying overhead, and scale limestone slopes without shoes. Then you encounter hundreds of pottery vessels and shards (awesome) and 15 crystallized human skeletons (scary).
Some of my work from my HS pottery class. Yes. I still own them.
Pretty familiar with antique Japanese pottery and the porcelain of Limoge, France.
a piece of pottery I made
I was born on the doorstep of a national forest, made paper airplanes obsessively for about a decade, got into mathematics busting out some liberal arts pottery along the way, and currently battle grad school anxiety via the magic of cooking.
